Rudy Giuliani Ending Political Career?

December 22, 2009 by nperess

Say it aint so Rudy!  Although I live in beautiful Southern California for over 10-years, I can not help but remember how Mr. Giuliani cleaned up New York.  He was an amazing mayor even before 9-11 happened.  Under his leadership, murders declined to levels not seen since the 1950’s.  He got rid of the bums that called the subway home and made living in NY attractive again.  Unfortunately, according to the NY Daily News, it seems Mr Giuliani is ending his political aspirations….again, I say….say it ain’t so Rudy!  With the Great Recession here and record deficits, New York needs your leadership now more than ever!

Congressional Budget Office Correction – The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

December 22, 2009 by nperess

Here’s  a correction on an error the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) discovered in their initial estimate. The initial estimate can be found at my posting here:
http://morethanautobody.wordpress.com/2009/12/02/analysis-of-health-insurance-premiums-under-the-patient-protection-and-affordable-care-act/

The except below quotes the correction from the CBO’s blog and letter to Senator Harry Reid, which can be found here:
http://cboblog.cbo.gov/?p=447

“The correction reduces the degree to which the legislation would lower federal deficits in the decade after 2019…. With this corrected reading, savings from changes to the Medicare program (along with other changes to direct spending that are not associated directly with expanded insurance coverage) would increase at a rate that is between 10 percent and 15 percent per year during the 2020–2029 period, compared with a growth rate of nearly 15 percent reported in the initial estimate.”

This is still a good deal for most Americans as a 10-to-15 percent savings rate is nothing to sneeze at when we are talking millions upon millions of dollars saved.

Analysis of Health Insurance Premiums Under The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

December 2, 2009 by nperess

Everyone should read the post below from the Congressional Budget Office. It seems Congress is on the right track with healthcare reform according to the CBO.  Although we must say that a 10%-to-13% increase is a BIG increase for those seeking insurance individually from an Insurance Exchange.

Here’s a little info on the CBO; As stated on their own website, under the ‘About Us’ tab:

CBO’s mandate is to provide the Congress with:

  • Objective, nonpartisan, and timely analyses to aid in economic and budgetary decisions on the wide array of programs covered by the federal budget and
  • The information and estimates required for the Congressional budget process.

Swine Flu Shot (H1N1)

November 12, 2009 by nperess

This article just popped up on MSNBC.com.  Although it highlights that few people have had side effects from this flu shot, I believe that this whole “get vaccinated” thing is full of bull.  I also believe that in years to come we will be seeing many more cases of Autism coming, thanks to this vaccine.  That’s my take on this issue.  Take a look at this article:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33845867/ns/health-cold_and_flu/

If your still convinced you need to get this vaccine, then do so. I personally will not get it, my wife refuses and our children will not be receiving this vaccine.  To add more fuel to this debate, I received an email a few days back on the potential dangers of the H1N1 vaccine.  While reading, ask yourself how much you really know about this disease and vaccine, then quiz your health provider.  I’ll bet that they have no clue as to the vaccines ingredients.  If they do, then let them prove it!  If you supply this information, we’ll post it here.

For your reading pleasure I’ve posted the email , unedited, below…

Health experts wary of Swine Flu vaccine

Sunday, October 4, 2009

Got this e-mail from a friend wondering if this neurosurgeon is worth his salt. My answer? Maybe this viral e-mail is written in a semi-dramatic tone, but the info stands. I’ve known this brilliant man’s work for years. I like that he’s becoming more outspoken.

The nuts and bolts of it…

Subject: This is a health alert from Dr. Blaylock concerning swine flu.

No one should take the swine flu vaccine–it is one of the most dangerous vaccines ever devised. It contains an immune adjuvant called squalene (MF-59) which has been shown to cause severe autoimmune disorders such as MS, rheumatoid arthritis and Lupus. This is the vaccine adjuvant that is strongly linked to the Gulf War syndrome, which killed over 10,000 soldiers and caused a 200% increase in the fatal disease ALS (Lou Gehreg disease). This virus H1N1 kills by causing a “cytokine storm”, which means that it cause the body’s immune system to overreact and that is why it is killing young people and is a mild disease in the elderly. (The elderly have weakened immune systems.) This vaccine is a very powerful immune stimulator and carries the real possibility of making the l ethality of the virus much greater.

One’s best protection is vitamin D3. One should take 5000 IU a day now and when the disease begins to spread increase the dose to 15,000 IU a day. Vitamin D3 modulates the immune reaction, reducing the chance of an overreaction and stimulates the body to produce what are called antimicrobial peptides, which are powerful killers of viruses that does not involve immunity. This is dose related, which means the higher the dose of vitamin D3 the better the protection. Fish oils (the best is Carlson’s Norwegian lemon flavored fish oil) also reduce immune overreaction. One teaspoon a day should be sufficient. For severe symptoms, one teaspoon twice a day. Antioxidants of various kinds also help–this includes, quercetin, curcumin, grapeseed extract, vitamin C and natural vitamin E. A good multivitamin/mineral such as Extend Core (http://www.vrp.com/) is also essential.

Feel free to spread this around. People need to know how to protect themselves.

RUSSELL L. BLAYLOCK, M.D.

Basically, he’s saying to take vitamin D3…it’s at Orchard Nutrition or Enterprise Health Foods for cheap.

Here’s Dr. Blaylock’s bio, skip it if you want:

Dr. Blaylock is a board certified neurosurgeon, author and lecturer. He attended the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed his general surgical internship and neurosurgical residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston , South Carolina . During his residency he ran the neurology program for one year and did a fellowship in neurosurgery after his residency. For the past 25 years he has practiced neurosurgery in addition to having a nutritional practice. He recently retired from both practices to devote full time to nutritional studies and research.

During his residency training he worked with the eminent neurosurgeon, Dr. Ludwig Kempe. Together they developed the transcallosal removal of intraventricular tumors, which is still used today. Dr. Blaylock presented their cases utilizing this technique to the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. They also developed the ventriculolymphatic shunt in the treatment of hydrocephalus. In addition, they conducted neuroanatomical studies together with the aim of developing improved approaches in vascular intracranial surgery.

It was during his residency that Dr. Blaylock did much of the primary work on intraventricular monitoring of craniocerebral trauma patients, which was reported in the scientific literature. He also worked closely with Dr. Peter Jannetta during Dr. Jennetta’s early research on vascular compression of the cranial nerves as a cause of trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm. Dr. Blaylock was one of the first neurosurgeons to utilize high-intensity nutritional supplementation in craniocerebral trauma patients, which met with great success.

Dr. Blaylock has written and illustrated three books. The first book was on the subject of excitotoxins (Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills ) and how they are related to diseases of the nervous system. His second book, Health and Nutrition Secrets That Can Save Your Life , covers the common basis of all diseases, nutritional protection against diseases of aging, protection ag ainst heavy metal toxicity, the fluoride debate, pesticide and herbicide toxicity, excitotoxin update, the vaccine controversy, protection against heart attacks and strokes and contains a new chapter on omega-3 fats. This book has been newly revised as an oversized paperback. His third book, Natural Strategies for Cancer Patients , was released in April, 2003 and discusses the ways to defeat cancer, enhance the effectiveness of conventional treatments and prevent complications associated with these treatments. In addition, he has written and illustrated three chapters in medical textbooks, written a booklet on nutritional protection against biological terrorism and written and illustrated a booklet on multiple sclerosis. He has written over 30 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals on a number of subjects.

New Car or Used (or Salvaged)? Buy Either, But Be Smart — LATimes.com

November 9, 2009 by nperess

These days with most people, as well as business’ in financial trouble, I would recommend buying used.  There is much money to be saved by buying used.  Don’t be afraid of small dings, scratches or dents, these can be fixed at a lower cost than purchasing new.

New car or used? Buy either, but be smart — latimes.com

In fact, if you are the type of people who drive cars till they die, then you might even want to consider a salvaged vehicle.  Salvage vehicles usually are half the price of a clean titled vehicle.  contrary to most beliefs, not all salvaged vehicles have been in bad accidents.  Some are vehicles that have been stolen or vandalized and recovered; others may have been in an a minor accident, where the insurance provider has paid out money on the vehicle. For example, lets take minor bumper damage, if the cost of repair is 70% or more of ACV (Actual Cost Value – Insurance companies version of Kelly Blue Book) they will total a vehicle.  Sometimes it is advantageous to an insurance company to pay an Owner of a vehicle to total a car than repair it.  When that happens, the Department of Motor Vehicles reclassifies a cars Title as Salvaged.

Whether you choose to purchase a Used and/or Salvaged vehicle, be sure to have the vehicle thoroughly inspected by a reputable Auto Body shop and Mechanic.  Always have a pre-purchase inspection performed on any vehicle.

Also, with a Salvaged Title you will still be able to insure a vehicle with Liability.  However, insurance companies will not allow you to add comprehensive coverage, such as fire or theft, as money has already been paid on this vehicle to a previous Owner.  Does this matter much?  It depends on whether you live or work in a high car theft area.  If you don’t have problems with car theft in areas you normally visit, I would recommend this as an option.  Besides, do you drive the car or its paper Title?
